Dear Artist,

Looking for inspiration? For some new techniques and tricks? Or perhaps you recently started to learn or relearn drawing and you’re asking yourself where and how to start?

No matter what your current artistic challenges are – we all know: sometimes drawing can be really frustrating. Imagine: You see something you would like to draw. You see someone performing great art. And everything seems easy like a breeze. But when trying to do it yourself, reality catches up. When struggling for every little progress drawing isn’t that fun anymore.

That’s not inevitable. Knowing the right techniques and tricks together with the right guidance and practice can make your life as artist much easier - can make drawing fun again.

And that’s this project’s mission: make drawing fun again! I am collecting and sharing here all material about secret techniques and the latest tricks I can get my hands on. So hopefully you’ll find one or another helpful trick or technique, too. No matter whether you are expert or beginner, drawing naturalistic or anime style comics.

Currently new content is added day by day, so come back from time to time. Best you bookmark this site now!

From time to time I am also offering free enrollments to my drawing courses and different free downloads full scale products that once sold for much money. So watch out for banners introducing you to the newest electronic drawing courses and free downloads.

Rai  - Drawers Block Frustration   |:
Hi Ruediger,

I've been sketching for a while now and I've always have periods
of time where I have a creative block and I can't draw anything within a week or
two otherwise I get irritated and angry.

But at the moment I haven't been able
to draw anything without getting frustrated, it just doesn't feel right! I've
tried watching tutorials and listening to music, and they give me heap loads of
inspiration...but for some reason I am struggling to get anything drawn onto
paper.

If you have any tips on how I can get over my drawers block or handle
the frustration with it, please help.

Yours truly,
Rai

though hopefully someone here can help.

I've been drawing for quite sometimes. However there is a time when my drawing
suddenly feel awkward and not satisfying at all. How did you overcome this when
all of sudden your drawing turn ugly and not as it used to be?
Ruediger   |:
Dear Andrew,

that's an important question. Once one of your drawings turns ugly
(and chances are it will from time to time) you can do one of two things: 1. put
it away (don't throw it away!) and start a new one. 2. fiddle around until it
gets better again.

In my experience most drawings that turn ugly shouldn't be
repaired because they are beyond repair or just need some time to get
"ripe". So it's in most cases the best idea to start a new
drawing.

BTW: I'm learning by failing, so I try to fail as often and as fast as
possible ;-)

Happy drawing

racheal  - frustration   |:
sometimes..im painting or drawing...and i mess up. badly. so i erase the piture
to start again...but that failure i had before keeps haunting my mind...is there
any way that i can forget it and not overthink averything? especially when
painting..its kind of important that you write back..please do :]
Ruediger   |:
Hi Racheal,

sounds frustrating. Some ideas I thought of right now:

1. if you
think you can do it better, get some scribbling-paper and try to draw that
detail you messed up. Concentrate on exactly this detail. Draw it a few times,
if necessary.
2. If this doesn't work, maybe this special item is too difficult
for you (at the moment). So put the drawing aside, draw other stuff and try it
again some days or weeks later.

Hope this helps. Happy drawing.

Brenda  - Thank you!   |:
Every tip you seem to give gets better an better! I'm enjoying drawing alot
more now. I'm going to be turning in a portfolio of my sister soon. I think
it looks very good. Thanks again.

my problem is fact that i can copy things that i see, but i can't draw from
memory.

I refuse to draw from memory because when i see that my drawings
sucks, i stop to do them, and i can't believe i can copy so good when i'm
terrible at drawing.
Ruediger   |:
Hi,

drawing from memory is really difficult. What you can try: instead of
drawing completely imagined scenes right away, start slightly deviated versions
of real-life scenes. Then add more and more deviations.
This way your
"drawing mind" will learn step by step to create non-real drawings
equally good.

anonymous  - wheres the fun?   |:
Dear Ruediger,

I have been drawing for a while, but I keep holding myself back
from enjoying drawing...

I always get distracted by focusing on the mistakes,
and thinking about the outcome when i probably shouldn't.

I love drawing, i
can't stop doing it all the time, but i always tend to believe that i have
failed when i most likely haven't. And i dont return to drawing for
hours...

Any suggestions?

thanks.
